OVERVIEW OF Angola 86:
It’s 1966, and the South African Border War has kicked off. South Africa’s Defense Force is being sent to South West Africa, and you’re in charge as a SADF commander. Your mission is to fight off the SWAPO insurgents who are causing chaos by intimidating locals planting mines and setting up ambushes all while sneaking across the border from Angola.
But it’s not just the SWAPO causing trouble. They’ve got backup from the Angolan army, FAPLA, which is armed with Soviet gear and has its eyes on taking over the whole region to unify Angola under communist control. To handle this you need to get your ground troops special forces artillery and air support working together. Training the local forces (SWATF) and winning the locals trust is crucial too because their support means better intel which is key in counter insurgency operations.
As you play, you’ll need to manage not just the battlefield but also the support back home. If you lose the backing of the United Nations, the war is pretty much over. The game lets you experience the intensity of the South African Border War from tracking down insurgents and blowing up their bases to managing your own rank and uniform from Lieutenant to General.
